In a firm rebuttal to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen have dismissed the notion that Greenland should fall under American control. This position was made clear following Trump’s statements at the NATO summit, where he reiterated his interest in the territory.
Stubb emphasized that any decisions regarding Greenland are exclusively within the purview of Denmark and Greenland itself. Echoing this sentiment, Valtonen expressed Finland’s unwavering support for Denmark’s sovereignty over its territories, underscoring the importance of respecting national boundaries and self-determination.
Addressing broader regional concerns, Valtonen highlighted the significance of addressing Arctic security challenges through established defense partnerships rather than engaging in territorial disputes.
