With its production budget pegged at $250 million, The Odyssey signifies Nolan’s most significant opening outside of the Batman series and marks his most successful box-office launch since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. Despite carrying an R rating, the film drew a substantial audience in North America, raking in $124.5 million. It ranks as the third-largest opening of the year, following Toy Story 5 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and particularly resonated with viewers aged between 18 and 34.
Across the Atlantic, the film found its strongest international audience in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it generated £12.9 million over the course of three days. The Odyssey is notably the first feature film to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras, offering viewers sharper and more high-definition visual experiences. It premiered in over 12,800 locations globally, screening on 26,000 screens, including 440 IMAX venues.
Critics have largely praised the film, which boasts an ensemble cast also featuring Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, and Charlize Theron.
